AUTUMN ORIENTATION EVENTS
1. Graduate Students Orientation, September 6 and 7
In the afternoon of Tuesday September 6th (following the EDC/FGPA New TA Orientation), there will be specialized workshops about the services offered at Carleton (Career Services, Health and Counseling, Library, etc.) in various rooms of Southam Hall, for all students. Further information for TAs is/will be available on the EDC website, http://edc.carleton.ca/taprograms-orientation.php
In addition, the Department of History will be holding a TA Training Session, compulsory for ALL History teaching assistants, on Wednesday, September 7th, 2011 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. in the History Lounge, Room 433 Paterson Hall. Madelaine Morrison, this year’s History TA Mentor, and doctoral student in History, will be leading the session. For your information, the Department of History’s TA Preference Form will be sent out in mid-July, and the Teaching Assistant assignments will be made by late August. (This will count towards your five hours of training, a system we will explain below.)
2. Departmental Welcome
You are invited to meet your fellow graduate students and faculty on Wednesday, September 7th, 2011 from 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. in the History Lounge, Room 433 Paterson Hall. The “Meet and Greet” will be followed by a departmental luncheon at 12:00.
3. Departmental Information Session, Friday September 9
ALL returning graduate students are invited to attend a departmental information session for graduate students in the first session of HIST 5002, on Friday September 9, from 8:30 to 11:30, in the Lounge of the History Department. In addition to program information, the responsibilities of the departmental graduate and union representatives will be discussed at this meeting and arrangements will be made for the election of the 2011-12 representatives.
